Manarola Italy is the second smallest of the famed Cinque Terre towns that are popular with tourists in northwest Italy. It is part of the municipality of Riomaggiore and is situated in the province of La Spezia. The region that Manarola is a part of is Liguria, which is a crescent-shaped coastal region known as the famous Italian Riviera. The name Manarola comes from the Latin words magna rota which was later changed to magna roea which translates into "large wheel". Moreover, if you visit Manarola Italy, you will no doubt notice the massive mill wheel which is a feature of the town.

Manarola is considered the oldest town of the entire Cinque Terre collection as its San Lorenzo church was built in 1338.  It is famed for not only being a part of Cinque Terre but also for its winemaking. Sciacchetrà is a quality sweet wine that has gained fame in recent years and comes right from this small town. Manarola has the most grapevines than any other Cinque Terre town and for a good reason!

The summer months are a very popular time to visit Manarola and the Cinque Terre towns. There are some renowned hiking trails in the area. Love’s Trail or Via dell’Amore runs from Manarola to Riomaggiore. Other hiking trails run above the town and make for an excellent day of sightseeing. Moreover, if you can’t get enough of the outdoors, there’s a park on the pathway to Corniglia and a rocky cove that is very popular with swimmers. And after a busy day of sightseeing, why not relax at one of the restaurants or bars with breathtaking views of the sea. Manarola is closest to the Genoa and Pisa airports, and you can catch a train from either of those places that will take you to the train station in Manarola. The trains run pretty regularly in Manarola, about once an hour, but be sure to check the schedule for specific times and prices.

Manarola train station is among the 5 convenient stops along the Cinque Terre National park, it is on the railroad route between La Spezia and Genoa. Fast regional trains and intercity service runs through this Ligurian town. As mentioned before, another great and easily reachable destination from Manarola is Pisa, with its world famous and far from perfect tower.
