Naples Italy

Naples Italy is the third biggest city in all of the country after Milan and Rome. It lies in southern Italy on the west coast facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, in Italy's Campania region. The historic city centre of Naples remains the largest in all of Europe and has been designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This city has important historical and landmarks and is a popular tourist destination in Italy.

Being in South of Italy on the mediterranean side, Naples weather is quite pleasant most of the year. Summers are generally warm, dry and muggy, with clear skies and winters are long, partly cloudy, wet and cold at times. Throughout the year the temperature can be anywhere from 8°C to 30°C. The lowest temperatures seen during the winters can be around 2°C, while the hottest summer days it could be as much as 33°C. Most pleasant weather in Naples and great time to visit is late spring to mid summer, and late summer to early fall when it's pleasant and crowds are manageable.

Looming across the landscape over Naples Italy is the famed Mount Vesuvius. This stratovolcano erupted in 79 AD and buried the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Today, you can climb this legendary volcano and take a peek inside its crater. The hike takes about thirty minutes, and the views from the top are spectacular. If you’d like to visit the city of Pompeii, you can also take a tour through the ruins of this city. It is well preserved due to the layers of ash from the volcanic eruption. Places of note to see in Pompeii include the Amphitheatre, the Temple of Apollo and the Temple of Jupiter. You can also visit the city of Herculaneum which is said to be better preserved than even Pompeii. Moreover, some of the wooden frames, roofing, and structures remain in good condition. 

The Naples National Archeological Museum is a must-see for museum lovers. It contains an extensive collection of Greek and Roman artifacts as well as objects from ancient Egypt. If it’s palaces you love, be sure to visit the Reggia di Caserta or the Royal Palace of Caserta. This is one of the largest royal residences in the world and has been deemed a UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

If churches and cathedrals are on your agenda, you’ll have your pick of them in Naples. There are over one thousand churches, and almost half of those are historical in nature making Naples a historical mecca. The Naples Cathedral is one of the most renowned and is built in an eclectic collection of styles including Baroque, Renaissance and Gothic. A large tower is featured on the exterior, and the interior is ornately decorated. Other churches of note include the Certosa di San Martino, San Francesco di Paola, and the Sansevero Chapel.

Another place you must visit in Naples Italy is the Piazza del Plebiscito. The piazza is a large open space that holds many historic buildings and statues. Naples also has a breathtaking harbour where you can wander for hours and watch the ships come and go from the port.

The Napoli Centrale is the main railway station for the city. It is located in the east of the city in the Piazza Garibaldi is the sixth largest railway station in Italy. In fact, high-speed trains can run at one hundred and eighty-six miles per hour and take travellers to Rome from Naples in under one hour.
