Pedara Etna

Pedara Etna is a place where you can experience a small Sicilian town cozied-up to the tallest stratovolcano in all of Europe which also happens to be on of the most active in the world. The town of Pedara is wonder to behold and happens to be a commune located in the metropolitan City of Catania in the Italian region of Sicily. It is situated 139 miles from Palermo and seven miles north of Catania. Its municipal borders are Pedara Mascalucia, Nicolosi, San Giovanni la Punta, Trecastagni, Tremestieri Etneo and Zafferana Etnea.

One of the most popular historical landmarks in Pedara is the Basilica S. Caterina. It is located on the Piazza Don Diego. It’s ornately decorated marble interior with breathtaking frescos interior and original bell tower make it a wonder to behold. Inside you will find three spectacular paintings by Mattia Preti which feature St. Catherine of Alexandria. A must see on your visit to Pedara.

Pedara Etna Map & Train Tips

Although Pedara is not directly accessible by train, a bus, taxi or car-hire can get you there from the nearby train stations which are: Mascali, Giarre-Riposto, Carruba or Guardia Mangano S.Venerina which are all on the Messina to Catania rail line offering high-speed regional and intercity service. You can also the convenience of flying into the Catania Fontanarossa Airport and then take the train up to one of the closer stations to Pedara.
