Portofino Italy is located in the Metropolitan City of Genoa in the Northern Italian region of Liguria. If you love churches, be sure to stop by the San Giorgio Church and Lighthouse. This church was destroyed and rebuilt following the last war. 

Perhaps outdoor spaces are what you seek. Portofino has some wonderful hiking trails which wind along the coast and the inland. In the southern area, you’ll find native flowers, plants and bushes. The northern area is much more forested with native trees. The Portofino Marine is a designated protected area. In fact, you are not permitted to even enter the water in certain places. However, there are numerous dive sites for scuba diving, which can be booked with local dive merchants. In particular, dives to the statue of Christ of the Abyss are popular. This monument was erected in 1954 at a depth of 56 feet and is a tribute to Dario Gonzatti, the very first Italian who utilized scuba gear. This breathtaking statue poses with open arms in a stance of peace and goodwill.

Portofino Map & Train Tips

Traveling to Portofino is pretty straight forward, and there are ferries, train stations and buses that offer reliable service. Portofino itself is a car-free zone, so driving there doesn’t make a lot of sense as you won’t be able to get around by car and parking is extremely limited. The closest train stations to Portofino are Santa Margherita Ligure and Camogli.
