Trento Italy

Trento Italy or Trentino as it is sometimes called is a city in the north. It is situated in the Trentino-Alto Adige Region on the Adige River and is the capital of the province of Trento. This area was originally part of Austria but became part of Italy in 1919. Trento remains the third largest city in the Alps and was crowned with the title of Alpine Town of the Year in 2004. Trento also hosts several famed events throughout the year including an economy festival and a Christmas market that lasts all of December and features more than sixty vendors. TRENTO WEATHER

There are so many interesting landmarks and museums to visit in Trento; it’s hard to name just a few. The Duomo di Trento or Trento Cathedral with its baroque chapel and the rose window is breathtaking. As well the Castello del Buon Consiglio has a collection of frescos that are awe-inspiring. You’ll also want to visit the Casa Cazuffi-Rella to delight in the Renaissance architecture. There is also a selection of museums such as the MUSE a natural history museum as well as galleries to wander around in. If you love shopping, you won’t be disappointed. This city has some wonderful shops. 

Trentino is home to many ski resorts which offer snow sports in the winter and hiking trails in the summer if the outdoors is on your wish list. Mount Paganella is a mountain range that is just northwest of Trento. There a few resorts as well as popular lifts in this area. The views here are unparalleled and will leave you awe-inspired. 

If you fancy a day trip on your trip to Trento, consider traveling to Lake Garda which is approximately an hour away. The largest lake in Italy boasts stunning landscapes and breathtaking scenery. You can visit one of the quaint towns that dot the shoreline and take a leisurely stroll — a perfectly relaxing way to spend a day of your vacation. And don’t forget to take in the food in and around Trento. Authentic Italian dishes abound here as wells as many local fine wines such as Pinot, Riesling whites and Merlot, and Cabernet reds are available for sampling.

Trento Map & Train Tips

Unlike some other areas in the Trentino-Alto Adige region, Trento does have its very own railway station. The Trento Railway station has been operational since 1859 and serves as part of the main railway between Italy and Germany. There are also connections to Venice from here.
